50's Diner Opening Day Review!

Today was the first day of business at the 50's Diner. While we will include a full review of our experience, we also realize every new business is going to have hiccups! We completely expected them since they are brand new!

When Chris first pulled up to the diner, he texted me and said they looked super busy. After going in, he realized there were still free tables. So, don't let the full parking lot scare you off. :) We were greeted by a fully decorated place, down to the waitresses even being dressed in 50's attire! Really liked the atmosphere, cute idea, and executed well. Drink orders were taken quickly and we started reviewing the menu. We found different types of burgers and hot dogs, several kids meals to choose from, sides like okra, french fries, onion rings, mushrooms, cheese sticks... all kinds of fried goodness. They had some sandwiches and appetizers too! We decided to stick with what we felt would be a safe bet, hamburgers. I ordered the Blue Hawaiian Burger with fried okra and Chris ordered the Dick Clark Burger with fries. Chase ordered the corn dog and fries, just in case anyone is curious. ;) We were very impressed with the time it took for our food, not exactly sure how long, but we were pleased with the wait. The hamburgers came out with plastic knives sticking out of the middle, not sure if that's a 50's thing or what, as I wasn't born until 30 years later ;), but it looked kinda cool. Chris quickly realized our burgers were switched, which was a quick fix, and I was pretty impressed by the first bite. Mine had burger, pineapple ring, and some kind of sweet & sour/barbecue sauce mixture. Chris' was just the basic burger with regular toppings. The burgers were of good size too. My okra was excellent, and they gave a good amount! Chris' fries were crinkle cut fries, nothing to write home about, just mediocre fries. He said he would probably choose a different side next time.

After dinner, we ordered DESSERT... I had my eye on one particular item since we got there - the Wagon Wheel! It was described as having cinnamon/sugar donut holes, vanilla ice cream, caramel, chocolate, whipped cream, and nuts. We.Were.Stoked. The wait time on our dessert seemed to take as long as our regular food, so that bummed us out a little bit. But, when it showed up at our table, we forgot all about the wait... ;)

It was pretty beautiful... and it was equally as tasty. Will definitely order again. The donut holes were a little raw/doughy in the middle, however, they were still yummy, and it didn't slow us down a bit.

After we finished the delicious dessert we were waiting for our ticket for a while. It seemed there was some confusion in locating it. We felt bad occupying a table while other people were wanting to come in and eat when all we needed was a ticket so we could pay and leave. Someone in charge then came to our table and said "Well, we can't seem to locate your ticket" so we replied with "Oh, okay, want us to tell you what we had?" She said "Nope, it's our fault, since we can't find your ticket, it's on the house." SAY WHAT?! We were insistent on trying to pay, but she said no. So, yeah, not only was our meal great, but we scored that baby for FREE! We did, however, leave a generous tip, in case you were wondering. :)

So, to recap, we really loved this local joint. Yes, a few wrinkles to iron out, but this seemed to be a pretty successful first day to us and we're in love. While we're excited to try the rest of the menu items, our figures can't afford weekly trips to this place. ;) So, we're going to try to practice some moderation and only make this a once or twice monthly treat!
